Marriage Vows

You called down a whirlwind,
And the black leaves of my bitterness
Spiraled into the summer clouds.
I will stand by your side always.

I saw your son riding a dolphin,
Lyre in hand, the dolphins leaping for joy
In a spray of gems.
I watched his phosphorescent wake
Until he met the sun at earth’s curve.
I will stand by your side always.

I know your power even if you don’t:
The queen bee thinks a command,
And bees fan the melting hive with buzzing wings.
I will stand by your side always.

Spinning blue about its sun
A planet is pure ocean,
Spinning like a precious drop in sunlight.
I go there to swim under the surface
And drink its sweetness.
I will stand by your side always.

If ever you must let go my hand
Earth will glide in eternal night.
I sketch the house where a great poet lived
And you brush the colors of his youth and old age
Onto the canal softly lapping at his door.
I will stand by your side always.
